Sex Offender Registration in Cincinnati

Always consult with a Cincinnati sex crimes attorney after being required to register as a sex offender. There are two types of offenders who are required by law to register with SORN – the Sex Offender Registration & Notification system.

Sex Offender:

Ohio Revised Code describes this as a person who has been convicted, pleaded guilty to, or adjudicated delinquent by reason of committing an offense which is either inherently sexual, or which involved a sexual motivation

Child-Victim Offender:

Ohio Revised Code describes this as a person who has been convicted, pleaded guilty to, or adjudicated delinquent by reason of committing a “Child Victim oriented offense.”

Once registered, the convicted offender is classified into one of three tiers based on the crimes they are convicted of. Each tier has its own set of requirements as follows:

Tier I

Sex offenders are required to register once a year with the county sheriff for 15 years. Tier I offenders include those convicted of importuning, voyeurism or gross sexual imposition.

Tier II

Sex offenders are required to register every 180 days or twice a year with the county sheriff for 25 years. Tier II offenders include those convicted of compelling prostitution, pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, or any sexual offense that occurs after the offender has been classified as a Tier I sex offender.

Tier III

Sex offenders are required to register every 90 days or four times a year with the county sheriff for life. Tier III offenders include those convicted of rape, sexual battery, gross sexual imposition, or any sexual offense that occurs after the offender has been classified as a Tier II sex offender.
